•Learn about personality types and help them understand who they are, and what their natural gifts are
•Support and encourage their interests—even if you were hoping they’d be/want something else. Give approval for who they are, unattached from your own expectations.
•Allow them to develop their own opinions and ponder their curiosities without being fed information relentlessly. Our job is not to program their brain, but to fill their heart. Then they will feel empowered to program their own brain.
•Praise them when you see a healthy trait, like dedication, letting a grudge go, flexibility, perseverance, etc. Identify the words for these character traits and why it will help them in life (and ignore the negative traits until the time is right to warn them of what you see).
•Have a sense of humor about their weaknesses! Being goofy can get the point across just as well, without making them feel insecure or ashamed.
